Obituaries:

GHULAM MOHAMMAD MALIK, a prominent social worker and crusader for education for the people of Old Delhi died of cardiac arrest on 9 August at the age of 58. During the horrific riots of 1947 he saved the lives of many people. President of Friends for Education, Firoz Bakht Ahmad paid rich tributes to him and said that people of strong character and high moral values of the calibre of Late Ghulam Mohammad Malik are badly needed today.

Religious scholar and exegete of Quran MAULANA ABDUL MUQTADIR died in Delhi on 18 August after a prolonged illness at the ripe old age of 82 years. He has been buried in his ancestral town of Sambhal in UP. He was author of the famous exegesis Tauzihul Quran wa Seerat Mohammad. He was a teacher from 1943 to 1983 at Anglo-Arabic Sr. Secondary School, Delhi. 

Mother of well-known poet, Majid Deobandi, died in Deoband on 9 August. She was 70 and is survived by six sons and two daughters. She was buried in Qasmi graveyard. Thousands of people from Deoband and Delhi including many prominent personalities participated in the last rites.

Senior Urdu journalist, WASEEM ANSARI died in Mumbai on 18 August after a brief illness. He was 58 and is survived by his wife and four daughters.

Distinguished journalist and founder editor of the eveninger ‘Indian Puran’ PM ABU BAKAR died on 11 August after a prolonged illness in a private hospital of Ernakulam. He was 56 and is survived by his widow and two children. He was also a member of Municipal Corporation and the head of Congress Party’s farmers wing of the district.

AL HAJ BABU CHIRAGUDDIN QURESHI, an epoch -making and distinguished personality of Quraishi community died on 15 August. He was a devout person.

Prominent poet of Moaradabad, MOHAMMAD AHMAD GAUHAR USMANI, died on 7 August after a prolonged illness at the ripe old age of 80 years. He is survived by four sons, five daughters and a large number of grand children. He started writing poetry from his student days. Some of his famous poetic collections are Aetaraaf, Idraak and Kuchh Phool kuchh Taaray.

Distinguished religious scholar and an authority on Hadith, MAULANA SAYYED MOHD TAHIR HASAN died in Amroha after a prolonged illness at the age of 80 years. When he breathed his last on the night of 11 August, the news of his death spread like wild fire and all shop keepers downed their shutters immediately. He was buried in the a graveyard of the town «
