Poor Muslim father pushes his kids to death
New Delhi: In a macabre incident, Saleem Ghulam Hussain Shaikh maddened by dire poverty done his five little daughters (between 3-9 years old) to death by throwing them off the Sardar bridge into the Narmada river in Gujarat on February 5. Shaikh, fearing further drudge abandoned his wife and 10-month-old son and fled to evade arrest, but has now been apprehended.
Apparently, Shaikh (aged 40), an autorickshaw driver in Bharauch district of the state, was finding it immensely difficult to feed and maintain his family of eight out of his paltry income of Rs 70-80 which he earned daily. However, Shaikh was also reportedly engaged in gambling and associated with a gambling ring in Bharauch. Though, his family members and friends denied this. Shaikh’s credit with shopkeepers ran up to Rs 8,000 besides Rs 10,000 which he owed to several people in Surat.
In an another incident in Ghaziabad district of Uttar Pradesh, Mohammad Ahmad Qureishi killed his two-year-old son on February 1 when he demanded new clothes on the occasion of Bakrid. Qureishi, who has since been arrested, used to sell fruits in the local market and lived in a rented house along with his wife.
