5 dead in communal clash in Ahmedabad
New Delhi: Five persons were killed in a communal clash at Choksi-ni-Chali in Gomitpur area of Ahmedabad on May 30.
According to Gomitpur police, a minor brawl between a cyclist and a youth of two different communities snowballed into communal violence. The 12-year-old cyclist, belonging to the minority community accidentally hit a Hindu boy living in the same locality. The man abused and manhandled the cyclist.
The boy went to the chali and returned with a mob of 50 men who pelted stones at the Hindu neighbhourhood. Hindu residents of the chali also pelted stones at people belonging to the minority community.
The violence continued for about 30 minutes. Gomitpur police intervened and laathi-charged the mob. Later during combing operation the police rounded up 26 youth belonging to the minority community and 19 from the majority community.«
