Pillar and foundation manipulated during excavation
Lucknow: Zafaryab Jilani, lawyer of Sunni Waqf Board and Jamiatul Ulama in the Babri Masjid case, said before the special bench on May 20 that the ASI during excavations at the Babri Masjid site had cleverly carved out the ground level on all sides and tried to give the impression that a pillar and foundation was found during excavations. He said this during the discussion on ASI report.
Jilani also showed a video film of the alleged pillar and foundation before the special bench. Jilani said that in this way ASI had tried to give the impression that a drain-pipe was found in the ditch. He showed a video film to emphasise as to how on the pretext of clearing the ground floor and walls, effort was made to give the shape of a drain-pipe. At this the other party raised an objection that this objection should have been raised at the time when excavations were being undertaken by the ASI. In reply to this, Jilani said that such objections were raised at that time also and given to observers in writing. The observers in turn had passed on those objections to the special bench which must be lying in its record.
VHP leader and former advocate general, V.K.S Chaudhary was also present in the court. (Rashtriya Sahara (Urdu Daily), May 21, 2004)
