AIBMF demands reservations and promotion of industries
Patna: President of All India Backward Muslim Front (AIBMF), Ali Anwar and in-charge of the front’s UP branch, Haji Nesar Ansari in a joint statement have demanded the inclusion of the problems of Dalit Muslims and Christians and reservation for them and promotion of handlooms, powerlooms and other cottage industries in the common minimum programme of the United Progressive Alliance. They expressed satisfaction on behalf of the front members that in the newly elected Lok Sabha there are half a dozen members of backward Muslim community whereas in the last Lok Sabha there was not a single representative from the backward Muslim community.
However, they expressed their concern that Muslims have not been given proper representation in the Union cabinet. The two leaders said in the statement that both houses of Bihar legislature and the government of Rabri Devi had sent a resolution to the Union government in 2000 demanding that Dalit Muslims be included in the notified community. Ram Vilas Paswan and some other parliamentarians had also demanded the inclusion of Dalit Muslims in the notified list but the BJP and Shiv Sena refused to comply with their request.
