SPECIAL REPORT
Bilqees Bano on stage
ACT, a Mumbai theatre group enacted Bilqees Bano, a play written and directed by Mujeeb Khan on 7 June at a hall in Nehru Planetarium in Worli. Bilqees Bano is not a drama but a true story of a Muslim woman who was gangraped by people of his neighbourhood whom she called “uncle” and “brother.” They killed her three and half year old daughter alongwith other family members before raping her while she was five-month pregnant. Gujarat police and judiciary tried to suppress her case. Some NGOs approached the apex court which ordered the case transferred to Maharshtra. The death and destruction of her family members in the Gujrat riots and herself bearing all oppression, indignity and difficulties bravely,
knocking at the doors of courts and the insensitivity of Gujarat police, all these have been depicted in this play.
