Triple talaq is not evil?

We have received the following email from Maulana Rabey Hasani Nadwi:

Respected Editor, Milli gazette
I have not given my interview in milli gazette and it must have written from his side please publish this correction in your esteemed journal.
M. Rabey Hassani Nadwi
Nazim nadwatul ulama

To this we replied as follows:

Respected Sir,

We did not conduct any interview with you (Maulana Rabey Nadwi) nor we claimed our report as such. The seemingly offensive statement occurred in your speech at the Islamic Fiqh Academy seminar in Hyderabad last June which was reported in our 1-15 July 2004 issue based on reports in the Urdu press. You can read our full report here:
Please note that irrespective of what you may or may not say, triple talaq in one sitting is evil as it is against the procedure set out clearly by the Qur'an (65:1; 2:229) for talaq which is described by the Prophet as "the most detested thing allowed by Allah."

MG has also received a message from Col. Mohsin Shamsi ( to which he has attached a letter sent by one Mohammad Riyad Nadwi to Maulana Rabey Nadwi. Col. Shamsi said in his message: “I have enquired from Molana Nadwi and he replied that he has not given any interview to Milli Gazette and Never used a word about triple talaq as mentioned in your journal /Internet edition.” Col. Shamsi further asked us to publish Mohammad Riyad Nadwi’s letter to Maulana Nadwi. We have decided not to do so since this letter or its copy were not sent to us by the sender himself. Yet we cannot help but quote a sentence from this letter which says: “triple talaaq is a facility in fiqh such as facilities in any other structure of law that is being exploited by unfortunate individuals. For example, when secular law in regard to squatters rights is exploited we do not hear calls for conferences to discuss changing secular law.” This is obviously a travesty of the facts and great boldness in matters of religion to claim that “triple talaq” is a “facility” in Islam, despite the fact that the Qur’an very clearly prescribes the method of talaq, viz., arbitration by the relatives of the couple, and if it does not succeed, the husband pronounces one talaq, and if he still persists in his decision he can pronounce the second talaq after the second menstrual periods of his wife; the talaq will be complete if he fails to reconsider his decision until after the end of the third periods. What we see now in the Subcontinent is a travesty of Islam and playing with the Shariat in which half-baked maulvis play an active part by failing to reject and denounce such games. When cornered, they themselves ask such talaq-mongers to go to Ahle Hadith maulvis for a fatwa since Ahle Hadith do not recognise triple talaqs. In other words what is wrong with them and for the couples becomes valid through a heela (ruse) the same that Jewish Phareesis practiced.
