Tension during funeral procession

Hyderabad: Eight policemen were injured in a stone-throwing incident on November 1 in Saidabad locality, when the dead body of Mujahid, who was shot dead by the Gujarat police, was being taken in a procession. The rioters damaged five police vehicles. Police lobbed teargas shells and fired in the air to quell the mobs.

The rioters had a free run most of the time and attempted to set fire a vehicle belonging to the Deputy Commissioner of Police. Women and children also participated in stone-pelting.

Mujahid was killed under dramatic circumstances when a police team opened fire to foil an attempt to take away Maulana Naseeruddin from its custody. The city police have registered a case of murder against the Gujarat police team headed by the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Narendara Kumar.

Sensing things would go out of hand, local Maithri Committee members and elders intervened and held talks with the police for peaceful conduct of the funeral procession.
