TMMK to stage demo in Delhi on Babri anniversary

Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam has decided to stage a protest demonstration in front of Parliament building on 6 December, Babri martyrdom anniversary. President of TMMMK Prof. M.H. Jawahirullah said in a statement that his movement has resolved to conduct a peaceful agitation in front Parliament on December 6th to demand the following:

  1. The 16th century mosque at Ayodhya was demolished by frenzied mob when Mr. P.V. Narasimha Rao was the Prime Minister of the Congress government. Mr. Rao promised to the nation on the very day immediately after demolition that the demolished Mosque will be constructed again. However the Congress Government led by Mr. Rao failed to keep up this promise. The Congress and most of the parties which are now constituents of the United Progressive Alliance Government have stalled the proceedings of the Parliament when the NDA Government was in power demanding justice for Muslims in the Babri Masjid issue. Now since a new government led by a Congress Prime Minister is at the helm of affairs, TMMK feels it is the incumbent duty of the UPA Government to reconstruct Babri Masjid at its original site and thus fulfill the promise given by the previous government led by Mr. P. V. Narasimha Rao.

  2. L.K. Advani and others were charged by the CBI which held them responsible for the demolition of Babri Masjid. However due to technical flaws willfully committed by the previous Government, Advani and others have escaped prosecution. TMMK demands that the Manmohan Singh Government should take immediate earnest measures to reopen the demolition case, book L.K. Advani and others and ensure that they are brought to justice.

  3. The P. V. Narasimha Rao Government appointed the Justice Liberhan Commission to enquire the demolition of Babri Masjid. Though 13 years have elapsed the Commission has not concluded its mission. The Government should initiate steps to ensure that the Commission concludes and submits its report within 3 months.

The TMMK State Executive Council also decided to hold picketing programmes in front of Central Government offices in District Headquarters on December 6th to press the above demands to arrest remaining culprits involved in TMMK Tirunelveli District Office Attack. (An attempt was made to murder Mr. Mohd. Rafi, Tirunelveli District President of Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagm on 3rd October. However he escaped the attack and two artists Gomathinayakam and Sunder were brutally injured. The Tirunelveli City Police have arrested few persons belonging to Tamil Nadu Tawheed Jamath in connection with this attack.)

TMMK also welcomes the decision of the Union Cabinet to constitute a Commission to identify Minorities for the purpose of granting reservation in jobs and educational opportunities. Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam appeals to the Government to appoint fair minded personalities with a flair for upholding minority rights as members of this commission.

In another resolution the TMMK said that the Andhra Pradesh High Court in its judgement on the Muslim Reservation issue has stated categorically that Muslims as Minorities are eligible of affirmative actions. It has directed to the State Government to form a Backward Commission to enquire the socio-economic status of the Muslim community and recommend the quantum of reservation for the Muslim Community. The State Executive Council appeals to the Government of Tamil Nadu to constitute a similar commission to recommend reservation for Muslims in Tamil Nadu and pave way for the Muslims of the state to get reservation.
