Communal clashes in Ahmedabad and Baroda
New Delhi: Nineteen persons were injured in a clash between members of Hindu and Muslim communities on August 29 at Bakhar village of Mehsana district. Initial reports revealed that the trouble broke out when the son of a retired police officer allegedly threatened some Muslims. He was on his way to offer pooja in a temple and the
scuffle broke out when he went to buy coconut from a shop run by a Muslim.
The rioting mobs were brought under control by lathi charge and the situation returned to normal. A case of attempt to murder and rioting has been registered against five persons.
Communal tension gripped Dahod, Baroda on September 2 when some provocative slogans like Allah ne chhodo, Ram ne bhajo, Hanuman ne bhajo (Shun Allah and preach Rama and Hanuman) and Jay Shree Ram were found written across the wall of Saifi Usami mosque. The police washed the slogans.
