SHAIKH, an FY B Com student of Poona college, won the national level karate championship gold medal at Ambala, Haryana. She is the youngest daughter of Ishaque Shaikh, a resident of Mangalwar Peth and a railway engine driver. She is one of the athletes who have bagged gold medals from the very beginning of their career. Starting karate at the age of 12, she won her first gold medal at the district level championship in Bibwewadi. The other gold medals followed in Pimpri, Chinchwad, Karad, Sangvi and two in Solapur. After these, she entered the state level championships and bagged three gold medals in Karnataka, Maharashtra and the one at Ambala. Rubeena learnt her lessons from Boundless Sports Association. "I am indebted to my Guru and guide Latendra Bhingare", she said. She proposes to coach the Poona College girls and join Indian Police Service.
