On the occasion of Rajasthan Haj Welfare Society’s foundation day, Urdu daily Rashtriya Sahara was presented with a special award for highlighting the problems and difficulties of prospective Hajis. The award giving function was presided over by Brij Kishore Sharma, MLA who complimented Haj Welfare Society for rendering valuable services to Hajis. 

Mohammad Shafi; Professor Emeritus of AMU’s Department of Geography has been honoured by International Geographical Congress (IGC) with Laureate D Honours award for his outstanding research works. This award was presented to him on the occasion of IGC’s 30th conference held in Glasgow in which 1800 delegates took part. Earlier, Padmashri Prof. Mohd Shafi was also honoured by Russian Science Academy with its highest award. 

According to Indo-Uzbekistan Friendship Association press release, Prof. QAMAR RAEES has been selected for Babar Award which will be given to him in recognition of his research and studies on Mughal emperor, Zahiruddin Babar and translation of Uzbek literature. This award will be presented to him at a function to be held in Tashqand on 18 September in celebration of Babar’s 525th birth anniversary. Scholars and researchers on Babar from Central Asia, Europe, Japan and other places will participate in this celebration. Prof. Raees’ book Zaheeruddin Mohammad Babar: Person, Personality and Poetry has been published in Urdu and Hindi and translated in Uzbek.

Sahitya Academy’s Urdu translation award for 2003 was given to WAQAR QADIRI. In addition, Sahitya Academy’s Bhasha Samman for the same year was given to Mohammad Waris Kirwani, besides Keshavanand Goswamy, Mangat Ravindar and Bihari Lakdawala. These awards were given at a function held in New Delhi on 27 August which was presided over by Prof. Gopi Chand Narang. 

Rajiv Gandhi Shiromani Award was presented on behalf of Global Economic Council to Mrs ATIYA MUSHTAQ, well-known social worker of Kolkata and chairperson of Rotary Club at a function held in Delhi. The award included a scroll of honor and a ‘shawl’. Many Union ministers were present on the occasion. The award is given every year to a person for promoting national unity and communal harmony.
