Commission member not TO take salary
Lucknow: Newly appointed member of Uttar Pradesh Minorities Commission member, Mushtaq Ahmad Siddiqui, an advocate by profession, has refused take his salary. In a letter to Commission’s secretary he wrote that he did not need salary as he practiced law in the High Court and paid income tax.
reconstruction of UP Urdu Academy
Aligarh: All India Urdu Rabta Committee president and renowned poet, Prof. Malikzada Manzoor Ahmad, while appreciating the UP government’s steps towards formation Madrasa Boad and a Urdu, Arabic and Persian University on 2 September, he said that two government institutions Urdu Academy and Fakhruddin Ali Ahmad Memorial Committee were being completely neglected. Chairman of the Urdu Academy does not know Urdu and its general body and executive committee have so far not been constituted. Same was the case with lhe latter institution, it did not have a chairman for years. These were causing a great loss to the cause of Urdu, added Prof. Ahmad. He demanded reconstruction of both the institutions so that Urdu could be promoted in the state.
NCPUL’s diploma course popular
New Delhi: National Council for the Promotion of Urdu Language (NCPUL) director, Dr Hamidullah Bhat said in a press release that for teaching and popularising Urdu, NCPUL has set up 107 Urdu study centres in 19 states in the country in which 15 thousand students have sought admission. He said that the long list of Urdu learners includes professionals, bureaucrats, high ranking police and army officials, academicians and people from foreign countries. Keeping in view the popularity of the course, it has been made one-year diploma course. Dr Bhat added that translation of course books on different subjects has been completed and sent to NCERT for publication.
Ali Miyan University may be set up in Lucknow
Lucknow: UP chief minister Mulyam Singh Yadav speaking at a seminar on August 31, organised on the life and services of Maulana Mohammad Ali Jauhar announced that a university would be set up in the memory of renowned Islamic scholar late Maulana Ali Mian Nadwi. The UP government had earlier announced setting up of an Arabic and Persian university at Rampur in the memory of Maulana
Jamia Millia’s convocation
New Delhi: Annual convocation of Jamia Millia Islamia university was held on 30 August on the the university campus. President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam speaking at convocation stressed on the need of creative and quality leadership to transform India into a developed country by 2020. He said that quality leaders are like magnets that would attract best persons for nation-building. Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Mushirul Hasan conferred degrees on more than hundred PhD and M.Phil students. Students securing highest marks in undergraduate and post-graduate courses were awarded gold medals by the chancellor of the university, Fakhruddin Tahirbhai Khorakiwala.
