Rouzathul uloom diamond jubilee

Calicut: As a part of the diamond jubilee of Rouzathul Uloom Arabic Association, an international Arabic seminar was held at Farook College in Calicut during 24-25 July. The general secretary of International Islamic Foundation Dr. Abdurazak Ahmed Dafar inaugurated the seminar. In his key note address, he said that the Arab culture and Arabic language have made a powerful influence on India. Various eminent scholars presented papers on "Evolution of the Arabic language and Literature". Mohammed Ahmmed Farooqui Azhari, Dr KV Veeran Moideen, MM Nadwi, Dr TP Mohammed Rasheed, Dr Jamaludheen Farooqui and Prof. Musthafa Farooqui also presented papers on related subjects.

On 25 July, the seminar on "Qur’an and Modern Science" was inaugurated by Calicut University Vice-Chancellor Syed Iqbal Hasnain. Noted Malayalam orator Dr Sukumar Azhikode delivered the keynote address at the seminar on human rights issues in the contemporary society.

The Rouzathul Uloom Arabic Association is running about 10 educational institutions like Farook College, Arabic College, Training College, Higher Secondary School, and an English-medium school in the campus. More than 7,000 students are studying in these institutions. An Islamic and Arabic Research Centre has been planned to start soon at an estimated cost of Rs. 5 million.

In the face of grim social realities prevalent during the first decade of post-Independent India, the Rouzathul Uloom Arabic Association’s concerted efforts to institutionalize the concept of education for Muslim minorities have yielded impressive results in the academic field of Malabar. The credit goes in particular to the visionaries from Malabar who had been educated and trained at Al Azhar University of Egypt
