Polio cases decreasing in Muslim-majority areas

New Delhi: Polio virus is fast disappearing in Muslim majority areas. After the lead given in anti-polio campaign by Muslim religious leaders, women have actively come forward in this campaign. As a result of these efforts for the first time in about a decade only one case of polio has been found in Bulandshahr in western Uttar Pradesh. In other places of western UP, like Moradabad, Aligarh and neighbouring areas, polio has almost totally been eradicated.

According to the concerned sources, all new cases that have been detected throughout the country belong to Polio Wild Virus family, ‘Genetic Sequence.’ No other virus has been detected.
