UP tops in maximum excesses against minorities
Lucknow: Members of National Minorities Commission, AK Sethna and AR Sherwani said in a press conference here on 31 July that maximum cases of excesses against minorities took place in UP, from where 500 complaints have been received by the Commission during the past four years. Of these, in 22 cases UP government has been asked to furnish its reply by 13 August. Commission members also said that the Commission’s annual report is prepared regularly and submitted to central government but for the past eight years no government has ever presented any of these reports in Parliament.
They also said that unless these reports are presented in Parliament, these cannot be made public by the Commission. The central government should therefore lay these reports on the table of the House every year so that the objective of appointment of the Commission could be fulfilled, they said.
