INL leaders killed in dubious attack
Three key leaders of the West Bengal branch of the Indian National League were killed on 28 November in what is being regarded as a deliberate attempt to liquidate the leadership of the INL in West Bengal where it is making inroads at a fast pace.
INL leaders were returning in a Tata Sumo vehicle to Kolkata after visiting Murshidabad when their car was hit by a truck near Krishangar on the national highway. INL General Secretary of the West Bengal branch Hasan Saeedullah Ashrafi (advocate), Vice President Abul Kalam (advocate) and Organising Secretary Rajab Ali, died on the spot while INL treasurer of the WB branch Zamirul Hasan was badly injured.
A condolence meeting held at the party office in Kolkata on 5 December which was attended by INL national general secretary Mohammad Sulaiman, concluded that there was a conspiracy behind the accident as the police showed least interest and despite a police station being at the distance of only three kilometers from the spot, it took three hours to reach the place.
A delegation under the leadership of Abdur Rab bin Ismail met the chief minister and home secretary of West Bengal on 6 December and demanded a proper probe into the incident.
