I agree with the view expressed by Hanif
Lakadwala that Zahira may have been under great pressure and threat to her life, which compelled her to distance herself from the efforts of Teesta Setalvad who took up the case of the dead and survivors of Best Bakery barbarism. As pointed out by the writer that regrettably, Muslims did come forward and put a protective ring around her and
rehabilitate the families that suffered in the pogrom. Muslims do not have a common approach and they do not direct their zakat fund in a unified manner to help the really needy people in the community. It is high time that all disparate groups of Muslims come together and meet to discuss the challenge being faced by them from commuanlists.
I appeal through this column to all thinking Muslims to come together on a common platform forgetting their small difference and unite under the three titles: The Owner of the Universe Allah, the Final Prophet Muhammad (saws) and The final book of criterion, The
