|UAE award for Aligarian scientist
Aligarian Dr. Sarfraz Ahmad has been selected to receive the Hamdan Award for the best original research conducted outside UAE and published in the Emirates Medical Journal. The award, consisting of AED
25,000 and all expenses paid visit to Dubai, will be presented by Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Makhtoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai at a grand award ceremony on Monday, 13th December 2004. Dr. Ahmad is also invited to participate in the 3rd Dubai International Conference for Medical Sciences scheduled during December 14-16, 2004.
Dr. Ahmad obtained his BS and MS degrees from the Aligarh Muslim University. After finishing his doctorate at North-Eastern Hill University, Shillong, he came to US in 1992 and received postdoctoral training at Loyola University Medical School in Chicago. In recognition of his valuable contribution, he was offered research and teaching position at the university where he published a number of research papers in peer-reviewed, reputable scientific journals. He has received numerous research grants and awards for his contributions from scientific societies such as the American Association for Clinical Chemistry, American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics and others. He is a member of numerous national and international scientific societies that include American Association for Clinical Chemistry, American Physiological Society, American Society of Hematology, International Union of Angiology, South-Asian Society on Atherosclerosis and Thrombosis, and the Shock Society. He has been an active worker and executive committee member of the Association of Scientists of Indian Origin in America for many years.
Besides being an academic research scientist, Dr. Ahmad has been actively interested in Urdu-Hindi literature and poetry since his early school days. He earned Adeeb, Adeeb-e-Mahir, and Adeebe-Kamil degrees from Jamia Urdu (Aligarh), Certificate of Proficiency in Arabic from AMU and an M. A. degree in Urdu literature from Agra University. He has been affiliated with literary and cultural associations, both in India and US.
Dr. Ahmad is currently associated as a Senior Research Scientist with Florida Hospital Cancer Institute, Orlando, Florida. He lives in Orlando with his wife, Ghazala Ahmad, who herself is an accomplished economists with a PhD degree from Aligarh Muslim University and is a faculty at Valencia Community College in Orlando. The couple is blessed with two children, Adeeba and Faheem.
