Asind Mazar cancels annual urs celebrations
New Delhi: The Bariya Mazar in Asind, Bhilwara district of Rajasthan did not celebrate its annual urs because of a stand off between the Dargah committee and the management of the Sawai Bhoj Temple. The dargh is situated in the premises of the temple.
The annual urs celebrations at the mazar used to be a major event before BJP/VHP sowed seed of hatred. A mosque, known as Qulandri masjid, stood barely 1.5 kms away from the dargah in the sprawling 670 bigha premises of the temple. The 400-year old masjid was demolished by miscreants in July 2001. Since then the urs celebrations at the dargah has been a low-key affair. It is believed that Sawai Bhoj temple was built by Mughal Emperor
Akbar.
Muslim bodies aggrieved over the failure of authorities in helping to rebuild the mosque decided not to celebrate the urs. The administration initiated last-minute parleys between the Urs Committee and the trustees of the temple but could not secure acceptance of any of the three demands of the Muslim community.
The three conditions of the Urs Committee for holding the festival this year were allotment of land surrounding the mazar, permission for using loudspeakers and erecting shamyanas and sanction to organise qawwalis during urs.
