Essential reading for those scurrying for dialogue with the US
Neocon plans for Muslims
The two articles, “Neocons seek Islamic ‘Reformation’” (MG, 1-15 May 2004) and “America’s desperate search for the ‘Liberal’ Muslim” (MG, 16-30 June 2004) reveal the kind of threats posed by the Ahl al-Kitab to Islam and Muslims. It is a fact that the phenomenon of the Ahl al-Kitab harbouring malevolent designs on Muslims is as old as Islam itself. It is also a fact that since the colonization of our lands by the Christian West began, the nature of the threat has become complex and subtle and much more menacing, and more often than not has translated into physical actions, against which, unlike in the former times, we seem to be absolutely defenceless as well as powerless. The current phase of our history, which is marked by the cancerous growth called ‘Israel’, splintering of, in particular, the Arab world, and the rise of the US as the most dangerous terrorist power, which exhibits all the "minor" signs of the Last Day, shows the Ahl al-Kitab to be desperate, as if time is running out: they are hell-bent, in an unprecedented manner, on destroying us in more than one way and they seem to be waging a decisive, multi-pronged battle against us. Only one who is blinded by the glare and glitter of Western materialism will refuse to accept this reality.
In this context, for the benefit of the MG readers, I cannot resist quoting from Islam Versus Ahl al-Kitab, the magnum opus by Maryam Jameelah. She writes in the introduction: "Even today when the Muslims have sunk into the most abysmal depths of degradation and decay, Islam still remains the most formidable potential rival to the modern West, boldly challenging all its hedonistic culture stands for. The Christian and Jewish orientalists are fully aware of this fact. Hence the special departments in universities and seminaries scattered throughout Europe and America dedicated to understand Islam only to enable its enemies to destroy it. These ‘Islamic Institutes’ and ‘Islamic Research Centres’ are now establishing their satellites in one Muslim country after the other, the purpose of which is to subvert the Islam cause from within and frustrate any attempt for a genuine Islamic revival. This book is an effort to meet that challenge. In order to cope effectively with the menace that faces us now, other Muslim scholars must collaborate in the task and produce more works to follow."
And in the final two paragraphs she says: "On what foundation can a lasting reconciliation between Muslims, Jews and Christians be based? We must realize that under the existing circumstances, no friendship is possible. Jewry and Christiandom have joined hands to destroy us and all we cherish. Zionism, freemasonry, Christian missionary activity and Orientalism have combined to annihilate us religiously, culturally and even physically. It would be sheer folly to kiss the hands that are beating us!
"Peaceful relations and mutual respect among us can only be achieved through strength. We must cease indulging in apologetics and present the Islamic message to the world honestly and forthrightly. Before we can hope to succeed with Tabligh on a large scale, we must first convert the nominal Muslims into true believers. We must establish an authentic Islamic state where the world will witness our precepts translated into action. Finally, we must crush the conspiracies of Zionism, freemasonry, Orientalism and foreign missions both with the pen and the sword. We cannot afford peace and reconciliation with the Ahl al-Kitab until we can humble them and gain the upper hand." There are lessons to be learnt from the hard facts the above quotes bring to light. (I strongly advise every MG reader to study this book, which is available from Nadwatul Ulama, Lucknow). The non-conformist intellectuals, modernists and secular liberals among Muslims ought to especially take note of them.
The threat posed by our adversaries and detractors are very much real. But then, these have always existed and we have always triumphed over them, which is a fulfillment of Allah’s promise (Qur’an, 9:32-33). Yet, tragically, The Ummah has never been free from a huge section of its members being victimized by our enemies—religiously, culturally, intellectually, physically.
