The fourth Shah Waliullah Award for the year 2002 on 'Quranic disciplines and the contemporary context' will be posthumously conferred on MAULANA SHAHABUDDIN NADWI for his outstanding contribution to Islamic learning. The award, instituted in 1999 by the Institute of Objective Studies, carries a cash prize of one lakh rupees along with a scroll of honour. The junior category award under essay writing competition on 'Shah Waliullah's approach to the Quran' will be given to MAHBOOB FAROGH AHMAD QASMI, a hadith teacher at Darul Uloom Sabilus Salam, Hydearabad. It carries a cash prize of Rs 25,000. Both the awards would be presented at a function scheduled to be held in Delhi on 27 March. 

JAVED AKHTARLyricist JAVED AKHTAR was presented the Filmfair Award for best lyrics for the 13th time for the title song of Kal Ho Naa Ho. Accepting the award, Javed said that the number 13, which is generally considered unlucky, had proved lucky for him and that he was looking forward to get the 14th award.

DR SYED GHAUS SHAMU, a correspondent of Urdu daily Saz-e-Deccan and member of Education Committee, Government Upper Primary School, Qila Jagtial, Karimnagar district of Andhra Pradesh was presented an award for his journalistic services by the district cell of Majlise-Ittihadul Muslimeen.

ASIF ALI MUHAMMAD ADIL was given three awards (i.e Ghalib Award, Josh Malsiani Award and Dr Radharishnan Memorial Award) at Delhi University convocation for obtaining distinction marks in MA (Urdu). A citizen of Mauritius, Asif was earlier awarded by Delhi Urdu Academy also for standing 1st in MA.

Noted poet SYED MUSHTAQ HUSSAIN “Josh Adib” was presented Vyasan Mukti Award by Vyasan Mukti Department, Government of Maharashtra. The award, consisting of a cash prize of Rs 10,000, a shawl and a memento was presented to Josh by Vyasan Mukti minister, Dr Dashrath Bhande at a function at Baba Saheb Ambedkar Sansikrit Bhawan, Pune recently. In his forty years literary journey Josh Adib has contributed to poetry, literature and child literature. His works include Qasr-e-Josh, Sawera, Qalam Ki Larzish, Buchchon Ki Nazmein, Safina-e-Adab, etc. Different akademis have provided him financial assistance for bringing out his works.

King Khan as the film actor SHAHRUKH Khan is known, is the real king of reel life. Khan won the Super Star of the year 2003 award at the Zee Cine award function in Dubai recently. Actors SAIF ALI KHAN and SHABANA AZAMI won best supportive actor and actress awards for their roles in Kal Ho Naa Ho and Tehzeeb respectively.

Delhi Police officer ASAD RAZA ZAIDI is among winners of this year’s police medal. Zaidi has won 196 commendations along with cash award. ¤
