Enough is enough
The suggestions made by the convener of the "Vajpayee Himayat Committee" Khwaja Iftekhar Ahmad are self-contradictory. On the one hand he declares that the meeting was not convened for supporting any party, on the other hand he supports Mr. Vajpayee. The comparison of Nehru with Vajpayee holds no water. It was Nehru who made India a democratic country in spite of the fact that the country was divided on the basis of the two-nation theory. But Vajpayee is leading India towards a Hindu Rashtra. Is it the way of winning the heart of Muslims?
So far as the progress of the country is concerned Vajpayee has failed in every field. Unemployment has increased, farmers are committing suicide, 30 percent of our people are not getting potable water and scams are everyday’s story.
Khwaja Ahmad is thankful to Vajpayee Government that it has not prohibited Muslims from offering Namaz and observing religious rites! Mr. Ahmad is living in fools paradise. Muslims of Gujarat cannot return to their homes from where they were driven away, what to speak of their religious rites.
Maulana Wahiduddin Khan is a great scholar and thinker who has asked Muslims to take a political U-turn. Does he mean that Muslims should break their tie from secular parties and join a non-secular party? The former VC of AMU Mr. Mahmoodur Rahman has made the increase in grant a criterion for supporting Vajpayee. This shows the bankruptcy of his wisdom. About 15 percent of the total revenue of India comes from Muslims while less than one percent grant is given to Muslim institutions, yet Mr. Rahman feels obliged to
Vajpayee.
So far as Dr Ejaz's demand is concerned, it is reasonable and justified. Socially backward Muslims should be given reservation like Hindu and Sikh Dalits. Ilyasi has no voice in politics while Tanveer Ahmad has been appointed by this very government.
