Muslims decide to boycott Vajpayee Himayat Committee

Meerut: A general meeting of Muslims was held here under the presidentship of deputy Qazi of Meerut city, Zainur Rashideen. Ulama spoke in one voice that the Vajpayee Himayat Committee was formed by some selfish people who have sold themselves to the BJP for personal gains and that the efforts of these people to mislead Muslims will be strongly resisted. Speakers criticised Ahmad Bukhari, Imam of Delhi's Jama Masjid, for issuing a Fatwa in support of Vajpayee and BJP. They said that the Imam of any Masjid had no right to issue a Fatwa because it was a religious edict and only a Darul Ifta was authorised to issue a Fatwa. The deputy Qazi said that Imam Bokhari's Fatwa was illegal, adding that an Imam could only express his personal views on any matter but could not issue a Fatwa.

The meeting decided to boycott Vajpayee Himayat Committee’s caravan wherever it goes and unfurl black flags before its organisers who have forgotten the demolition of Babri Masjid and genocide of Muslims in Gujarat for their petty personal gains. The deputy city Qazi said that this action is being taken in order to prevent Muslims from being misled by Himayat Committee's plans and propaganda.(Rashtriya Sahara Urdu daily, April 29, 2004)
