UMI flays US, Israel for atrocities on Iraqis and Palestinians

Jaipur: United Muslim of India (UMI) held its general body meeting here on April 28 under the presidentship of former head of Urdu Department of Delhi University, Prof Abdul Haque. Addressing the meeting, he said that today circumstances were not favourable to Muslims, society was breaking up and evils of all sorts were spreading. All political parties and leaders from top to bottom were involved in corruption. The unfortunate thing was that the people and organisations on whom the responsibility of reforming and looking after the welfare of society was placed have forfeited their faith and trust.

Chief guest and general secretary of Urdu Development Organisation, Dr Lal Bahadur, said that Urdu was the country’s most popular, rich and widely spoken language. Development of Urdu means promotion of peace, love and brotherhood in the country. When Urdu was the dominant language there was no feeling of communalism. Narrow-minded people describe Urdu as a “Pakistani language” and blame it for the creation of Pakistan. We are surprised and feel sorry for their lack of knowledge. They should know that the mother tongue of Pakistan's founder, Mohammad Ali Jinnah was not Urdu.

Another speaker, V. Kumar, a communist leader, said that today everywhere there was cry for peace but no one wanted to find out the root causes of unrest. He said that America and its allies’ actions are undermining the rights of Iraqi and Palestinian people. America and Israel have been exposed before the world and their talking about peace and justice was pure deception and nonsense.

At the end, Mohmmad Ahmad, joint secretary of UMI passed a resolution condemning USA for its one-sided and blind support to Israel and Israel’s killing of Palestinian leaders. (Qaumi Awaz, April 29, 2004).
