Arrest of cow slaughter accused quashed
Lucknow: Lucknow Bench of Allahabad High Court consisting of Justice Khem Karan and Justice P.K. Chatterjee has declared null and void the arrest under National Security Act of five persons accused of cow slaughter and ordered their release. Messrs Ekram, Mushtaq, Muslim, Ghaffar and Taufeeq of Partapgarh had filed a writ petition against their unjust arrest. The district magistrate of Partap Garh had ordered their arrest in April. According to him, the accused had slaughtered a cow and were selling its meat openly in the market which could have threatened law and order situation in the city. The plea of the accused was that they had never slaughtered a cow and they were falsely implicated. Their lawyer said that the district magistrate declared them culprits under the pressure of a political leader. The lawyer quoted precedents when some other accused under similar circumstances were released by the high court. The court accepted his argument and ordered their release after declaring the order of the district magistrate as null and void.
