Politcal Fatwa is wrong
Deoband: Officiating rector of Darul Uloom, Deoband Maulana Qari Mohammad Usman Mansoorpoori, addressing media persons, said that 'fatwa' is a religious terminology and it provides guidance for leading a certain way of life. Therefore, use of this word in political statements is wrong and inappropriate. Reacting to a statement made by Imam Ahmad Bukhari of Delhi Jama Masjid in favour of BJP, he said that these were his personal views and hence it was wrong to call them a 'fatwa'. He said that Darul Uloom is a religious educational institution. It neither supported nor opposed any political party nor gave any comment on political affairs, though its stalwarts played a leading role in the country's struggle for Independence. This great institution had always promoted love, communal harmony, tolerance and brotherhood.
He made it clear that if any person associated with the institution supported or opposed any political party or person that would be his personal matter and the institution would not be responsible for
