Shias remind Vajpayee of his promise

New Delhi: A delegation of Shias of Delhi plans to go to Lucknow to remind the Shia community there the promise of Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee five years ago that the Dargah of Shah-e Mardan near Lodhi Road in Delhi would be handed over to them. The place is also known as Karbala. They have been handed over the key of the dargah, but they still do not have the right of possession of the dargah. There are nearly one-and-a-half lakh Shia voters in Vajpayee’s constituency in Lucknow, their displeasure can prove costly to the prime minister. (Nav Bharat Times [Hindi daily] April 15, 2004)
