Shame, shame
MG editor, Dr Zafarul-Islam Khan sent the following message to the Press office of the American Embassy in New Delhi after receiving the text of Secretary Powell’s statement on 5 May in which he said that the abuse of prisoners was by a small number of troops, that it was out of American character and that the Americans will get to the bottom of this but he failed to utter a word of apology to the Iraqi victims:
“Isn't it a matter of utter shame for Ugly America that it has no words of apology to the victims and their families? Ugly America is only concerned about it's "image" and "prestige"! Rest assured, no amount of PR will salvage Ugly America's image of a world thug, a dirty bully, one who has two sets of laws: a civilised law for itself and jungle law for all others.”
