Awards:

Sahara group for the first time organised a Music Award Program in England which was held in London’s Royal Albert Hall on 2 October. The function was attended by many Bollywood film personalities. On this occasion poet and film song writer Javed Akhtar was given 3 awards for Best Song Writer for Pop music O Sahiba, Best Critic Award and Best Title Song for the hit film Kal ho na ho. In his thanksgiving speech Javed said that after about three decades, he has been honoured with three awards simultaneously. Among other award winners were also music director AR Rahman and Rahat Fateh Ali Khan for best voice in film music.

Dr Obaid Siddiqui of National Centre of Life Sciences has been selected for this year’s H.K. Phirodia Award for his life long distinguished services in the field of nuclear biology. This was announced by the spokesman of H.K. Phirodia Memorial Trust. The amount of this award to 72 - year old Dr Siddiqui is Rs 2 lakh. Another person to be honoured with Phirodia Award is 64 - year old Dr T. S. Prahlad of National Space Laboratory for his services in bringing the country on the world map of civil aviation. The amount of his award is Rs one lakh.

Noted Hindi writer, Wasiqur Rahman Farooqui, Ph.D, D.litt was honoured with Hindi Award on Hindi Day on 22 September at a function held at Hindi Bhavan under the auspices of Andhra Pradesh Hindi Prachar Sabha, Hyderabad in recognition of his long and distinguished services to Hindi language and literature. The award consisted of a memento, a shawl and commendation certificate. Previously also, he was honoured with many awards like National Unity Award, Sadbhavna Award, Best Teacher Award etc.

The Principal and teachers of Moradabad’s Abbas Inter College have been honoured with Sherwani Awards for excellent results of the college in High School Board and Intermediate. Result of High School Board in 2003-04 was 93 percent whereas that of Intermediate was 100 percent. It may be noted that for the fourth time in succession the Intermediate result of his college has been cent percent. In addition to the Principal F.H. Yani, other teachers to whom Sherwani Award has been given are Nasiruddin ANWAR, Aftabuddin, Babu Ansari, Mohd Parvez Rizvi, Nafees Ahmad, Iqbal Nasir and Mashkoor Ahmad. The awards were presented by Saleem Iqbal Sherwani, MP and chairrman of Bharat Sewa Trust, New Delhi. 

MA (Final) Urdu student of Osmania University Hyderabad, Jabeen Zamani has won the second prize in Allma Iqbal Literary Center's Sixth Written Competition held under the auspices of Sahitiya Academy, Bhopal at national level. The award consists of Rs 1500 in cash and certificate. She wrote her Articles on Iqbal’s Tarana-e Hindi.
