AIM technical training centre

The Milli Gazette Online

The construction and furnishing of AIM Technical Training Centre, an industrial training institute to provide certificate level training in various industrial trades, was completed and inaugurated in Jamalpur, Ahmedabad on August 15, 2004. Classes and laboratories have started functioning. This centre is providing certificate course in electrician, basic electronics, and refrigeration and air-conditioning trades of six months duration to 60 students in one term, 20 students from each of the trades.

This training centre, built and furnished entirely with funds provided by the Association of Indian Muslims of America (AIM), which comprises 15 classrooms and laboratory rooms is owned and operated by the Falah Darain Education Society, Ahmedabad. This is a large Muslim educational group that already operates a Women’s College, several higher secondary schools, and primary schools for Muslims in Ahmedabad.

The centre was inaugurated by MA Narmawala, IAS, secretary, Gujarat Government, who was the chief guest at the inaugural function.

Training is being provided to students in two six-month terms, from July to December, and January to June every year. The classes for electrician and refrigeration and airconditioning, are held in the morning hours, and the basic electronics classes in the evening hours. RM Faruki, a retired electrical inspector is the principal of the centre. The development and construction of the centre was conducted with assistance from Hussain Girach, retired Joint Director of Technical Education, Gujarat government.

The construction of the ground floor was done with a provision for adding two more floors in the near future. In addition to it, the centre plans to offer training in more industrial trades in order to benefit Muslims youth. The AIM director Kaleem Kawaja coordinated this project.
