|PQT demands quota for suppressed sections of Muslim society

Azamgarh: Pasmandah Qaumi Tanzeem (PQT) organised a conference on the theme constitutional reservation for religious minorities here at Shibli National College on February 27. The participants backed the demand of the Tanzeem for revoking para 3 of the Constitution (Scheduled Caste) Order 1950 so that the suppressed sections of the Muslim society be included in the list of Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribes.
The resolution of the Tanzeem said that from 1935 to 1950, the suppressed classes of almost all the religions were benefited from reservation. Article 341 of the Constitution included Dalits into the class of Scheduled Caste and empowered President to recognise them in different states. In 1950, however, the President, promulgated an order to strike all the non-Hindu Daltis from the List of Schedule Castes. Then later on Sikh Dalits and neo-Buddhists were included in the list in 1956 and 1990 respectively, but unfortunately, the suppressed classes of Muslims and Christians remained excluded from the category.
The suppressed classes of Muslims are like Dalits and have been in miserable and wretched condition. Social “equality” among Muslims is limited to their religious matters only, because of their low position none of them have ever been made a candidate of any political office or had any academic, legal and social position in the society.
Several thousand delegates including many social and political personalities attended the conference and presented their views. Some of them included former Union minister Chandrajit Yadav, CPM Politbureau member, Subhashini Ali, minister in UP government, Balram Yadav, MLAs Waseem Ahmed, Durga Prasad Yadav, and UP Minorities Commission members, Mohd. Wamiq and Nilam Romila
