|Communalists gender biased
Milli Gazette Online
Bangalore: The human rights activist Teesta Setalvad said here that it does not require too much intelligence to see that communal forces, whatever the religion, feed on gender bias and the idea of “pigeonholing” women to push their own agenda. Women must realise that whether they belong to the majority or the minority groups, they are the first to be affected by the brutal caste system, gender violence and gender subjugation in the name of ritual and tradition. “Communalism is just superimposition on the real agenda of fascist aspirations,” Ms. Setalvad said. She was speaking on the “impact of communal violence on Muslim women”, at a conference on Muslim women and their rights organised by the Karnataka State Commission for Women on March 11.
