95 killed in Hindu-Muslim violence in 2004
New Delhi: Ninety-five people were killed in sectarian violence between Hindus and Muslims in the country till September this year, parliament was informed on 21 December.
"There were 451 incidents of clashes between the two communities across the country in which 1,571 people were injured," Minister of State for Home Affairs Sriprakash Jaiswal told the Lok
Sabha.
While Uttar Pradesh had the highest number of deaths, with 29 people killed in 91 incidents, Gujarat and Maharashtra accounted for 14 and 10 deaths in 77 and 74 incidents of violence respectively.
Orissa registered 13 incidents of violence against the Christian community. At least one Christian each was killed in Kerala and Madhya Pradesh during the year.
