25 riot-affected children to study in Delhi school
New Delhi: A Delhi-based cultural organisation, Anhad has decided to bring 25 riot affected children from Gujarat to get them continue their studies in Delhi. They will join Balwant Rai Mehta School, located in Greater Kailash II, South Delhi, from the next academic session starting in April. The children are likely to reach here sometime later this month. They will stay in the Badarpur area.
The children who have till now studied in Gujarati medium schools, will have to be prepared for the Delhi education system. That is why they are arriving much before the new academic session. They will be given regular tuition in Mathematics, English and Hindi for four months, said Ms Shabnam Hashmi from Anhad. She said that her organisation tried to get them admitted in schools of Gujarat but the authorities refused to accommodate them. Later the central government offered to have these children admitted in Navodaya Vidyalayas in the state but the children and their relatives were reluctant because they still felt insecure, Ms Hashmi added. «
