Thirteen other accused in the case were acquitted earlier. In 1989, the murder of five people in the district led to one of the worst communal riots in the country. The case was registered after a complaint was made by Badrul Islam. More than 15 years ago, Badrul Islam's father and five others were killed in riots in Kamarganj village. "We were surrounded from all sides. We managed to run and gather at one place. My father and brother were attacked with lathis," said Badrul. Badrul
Islam's case was pending in the local courts for 15 years, but this week 10 people were finally found guilty of the crime.
