Dr Faridi Memorial Lecture
Milli Gazette Online
New Delhi: United Muslim of India organised Dr Abdul Jaleel Faridi Memorial Lecture in Delhi in the memory of the distinguished leader and founder of Muslim Majlis who for the first time in independent India raised the slogan of Dalit-Muslim unity and did everything possible to put this slogan into practice. Senior Urdu journalist Mahfoozur Rahman said that Dr Faridi was basically a good natured, pious and sincere well-wisher of the Muslim community. He said that in this world of selfishness, oppression and lack of fellow-feelings he all alone tried to forge unity between Dalits and Muslims and worked for betterment of the community. His efforts generated much hope and enthusiasm among the people. It is a pity that after his death the community again became leaderless and could not identify its true destination. He said that there is no doubt that an army of leaders exist even today but they have their own axe to grind without bothering to do anything for the community. He regretted that such a situation is prevalent more in north India than in the south.
Editor of Delhi-based magazine, Urdu Book Review, Mohammad Arif Iqbal spoke in detail about Dr Faridi’s movement and the role of present leaders. He specially mentioned about his leadership qualities such as sincerity, honesty, sense of selfless service and sacrifice which are greatly lacking in today’s leaders.
