Pune: Vasant Vyakhyanmala, a public platform established 131 years ago in Pune, organised its spring public lecture series here which continued for 30 days.

Dr. Phiroz A. Poonawalla, president of Holistic Turnaround Management Foundation, spoke on the theme ‘Quran — A Universal Message’. He started the lecture with recitation of Al Fatiha and a brief explanation of the opening chapter of Quran. He said that the message of Quran is for all the people of earth and universe. He quoted Quranic verses to clarify the position of Quran on various aspects of life as moral, ethical, social, scientific, economic and business ethics and freedom of religion. He emphasised that there is no compulsion in religion and in following the religion of one’s own choice.
Dr Poonawalla shared his own experience in implementing the Quranic injunctions pertaining to riba (interest) and suggested some alternatives to the prevailing exploitative economic system. He emphasised the universality of Quran, and need of peace, righteousness, forgiveness and
brotherhood. The lecture programme was well-attended by the people from all walks of life.
