Najma grounded
The
Milli Gazette Online
New Delhi: Rajya Sabha MP Najma Heptulla, who faced much embarrassment over the discovery of a morphed photograph, is virtually grounded after the government refused her permission to travel abroad.
Heptulla has been denied sanction for official trips abroad as chairperson of the Indian Council of Cultural Relations (ICCR), a post she is clinging to despite subtle and pointed suggestions from the Congress-led government that she give it up.
This year three official visits were denied to her and ICCR delegations were led by other people. She was refused political clearance to go for the April 23-May 1 Houston festival spotlighting India, where finally Tourism Minister Renuka Chowdhury went. She was denied a visit to Tashkent for the Festival of India in Central Asia.
