|Islam abhors fundamentalism
Milli Gazette Online
Thiruvananthapuram: The youth wing of the Mujahideen movement, Ithihadu Shubbanil Mujahideen (ISM), has said terrorism and fundamentalism are against the basic tenets of the Islam. The ISM adopted a resolution at its three-day convention here that ended on February 13. It expressed concern over the growing tendency among various religious groups to promote terrorism and fundamentalism in different parts of the world. Islam gives the message of peace and does not permit violence, the resolution said. Islam does not support forced conversion nor does it permit religious conversion through enticement or by exploiting the goodwill generated through altruistic activities. The spirit of Islam lies in the Holy Quran and the teachings of the Prophet. But often Muslim clergy's postures contradict the spirit of the Islam, thereby sullying the image of the religion. There is no place for the clergy in Islam. The clerics are pushing the religion into superstitions and perverse rituals so that they can exercise their influence over the community to further their selfish materialistic interests. Enlightened Muslims should wake up against this evil practice, another resolution said.
