New Delhi: Senior BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi has termed the demolition of the Babari Masjid as killing of an "enemy" instead of imprisoning him. "I don’t think anyone of us is sad. We had only said it (the demolition) was unfortunate," he said in an interview published in the latest issue of the RSS mouth piece,
Panchajanya.
He added that the BJP government could not do "certain things" on the Ayodhya front. The government should have handed over the acquired land at Ayodhya to its "owners".
Asked about the difference between "unfortunate" and "feeling sad," he said that it was "unexpected and unfortunate" as the BJP leadership had not visualised the demolition of the mosque.
"It happened suddenly. (It is like) I have an enemy and I want him to be jailed but that enemy suddenly dies, or is killed, and you feel shocked. I had the same feeling which you have in such an event," he said.
He said that Ram temple could have been constructed during NDA regime and that there was a "lapse" in this regard. The Ayodhya dispute could be solved only through negotiations, he said adding that the Ram temple would be built at the disputed site only.
