Mumbai: The United Writers Association has awarded Dr RT Rathore, Joint Police Commissioner, Thane, with a Lifetime Achievement Award for his outstanding work in promoting communal harmony and national integration by preventing communal violence.
He has formulated a project to promote communal harmony among school and college students. His project is approved by the state government. He is of the view that competitions like drama, essay writing, debates and elocution on the theme of national integration among students promote communal harmony. And involving a minister or celebrity to distribute the prizes for such events increase the interest of the students in such competitions and their understanding of theme. The participation of parents is necessary for the success of such schemes, because they are the real motivating factors behind their children's involvement in spreading communal harmony in the society. Rathore said that a majority of people, do not like to participate in communal riots but some fundamental elements incite communal feelings. He has suggested formation of citizens committees comprising persons from all religions, castes and communities to ensure the smooth celebration of religious festivals.
Rathore has done his research from the Pune University in ‘Development of Communal Harmony" to prevent communal riots while serving in communally sensitive areas as an IPS officer. The Pune University awarded him a
