Quran unravels the mystery of tsunami

Lucknow: Holy Quran holds the key to the mystery of tsunami catastrophe, claims Jamshed Husain Naqvi. The Lucknow-based scholar who has written a number of articles on Quran and Islam, quotes Pickthal's Meaning of the Glorious Quran to prove his point .
In an exclusive interview, Naqvi draws the conclusion that the freak phenomenon of nature which happened both on land and sea is a result of man's tyranny to man, his insensitivity towards his fellow beings and also because of Man's destruction of the ecological balance of nature
"Quran is the only known source which gives an apt, significantly accurate, precise description of the holocaust that occurred on December 26, 2004. It gives vital clues as to what was the cause of its occurrence" explains
He says that while there are a number of verses in the Holy Book which warn Mankind about divine punishment or doom for the sins he commits in this world, he specially quotes 30:41 which to him seems the most appropriate in describing tsunami.
"Corruption doth appear in land and sea because of the evil which men's hands have done so that He may make them taste a part of that which they have done in order that they may return to the right path."
Naqvi says that earlier this Quranic verse was being interpreted in the context of global war where nuclear weapons would be used on land and on sea causing great havoc. H G Wells had predicted that the third world war would be at best a pyrrhic victory where the dying would be lying on the dead.
The other quotes which give an indication of the holocaust, according to Naqvi, are:
n And the (awful) cry overtook those who did wrong so that morning found them prostrate in their dwellings” (11:67).
n “So when our commandment came to pass we overthrew (that township) and rained upon it the stones of clay one after another” (11:82).
n “How many generations have we destroyed since Noah! And Allah sufficeth as knower and beholder of sins of His slaves” (11:17).
"Even the famous predictions of Nostradamus, the 16th century astrologer who forecast major events of the past 400 years, have made no predictions which even remotely describe or resemble the freak phenomenon of tsunami in which hundreds of thousands perished. So one can safely conclude that the famous astrologer failed to predict the biggest catastrophe known to civilized human history. None of his predictions for the 20th or 21st century even in the generalist form even remotely resemble the nature of the catastrophe or its scale, magnitude and locale, says
"Even the word ‘tsunami’ which is Japanese in origin was not commonly known till that fateful day of December 26. The phenomenon mostly occurred in some coastal areas and never had such a vast global area ever been affected before. But this time the whole thing was sudden, too violent. Despite all the technological advancement in weather and disaster forecasting the experts failed to detect the oncoming disaster hence no hint or warning of the impending disaster could be given in time. The terrible fury of turbulent giant waves sweeping and engulfing everything in its way, men, cattle, castles, trains, roads — obliterating all signs and traces of life — leaving behind colossal destruction. Those who have survived will take years to recover from this shock, said
But Quran keeps giving warnings all the time. It keeps asking Mankind to follow the path of righteousness and shun the path of untruth and wrong. It is only when its warnings go unheeded again and again that tsunami occurs.
