Tibbi congress to raise apathy to Unani medicine in Parliament
Milli Gazette Online
New Delhi: Unani Pathy is on decline because of the apathy of the central government. The issue would be raised in Parliament to highlight the step motherly treatment being meted out to the most popular Indian system of medicine, said former MP, Dr AU Azmi voicing concern on the decline of Unani Pathy at an executive council meeting of the All India Unani Tibbi Congress here.
Dr Azmi said that Unani medicines are not available in the CGHS Unani dispensaries for the last many years and as a result the number of patients coming to the dispensaries is gradually decreasing. It may be seen as a conspiracy to harm this system of medicine.
He appealed to Unani physicians to revive and restore the status of the Unani Pathy and to raise themselves above petty-interests to serve Unani Pathy whole heartedly.
Five years have elapsed but no progress has been made towards establishment of National Academy of Unani Medicine. The vacancies of Unani physicians and other staff have not been filled up. Hakeem Ajmal Khan’s U&A Tibba College Karol Bagh, New Delhi has not been awarded the status of a Unani university though it fulfilled all the criteria, said Dr Azami.
The meeting passed a resolution which demanded to fill up the vacant posts of Hakeems and other Unani staff in the ministry of Health and Family Welfare and CGHS Unani dispensaries, open new CGHS Unani dispensaries in the state capitals and increase the stock of Unani medicines in the CGHS Unani dispensaries, establish the National Academy of Unani Medicine as soon as possible on the line of Ayurveda. The department of ISM&H should be revived and renamed as a department of ISM&H in place of Ayush, a section of DSRU at PLIM Ghaziabad be opened for the smooth functioning of drug standardization of Unani medicines, U&A Tibba Colleg Karol Bagh, New Delhi be upgraded as a university in the memory of Hakeem Ajmal Khan.
