JUH discusses problems of Assam Muslims with Sonia Gandhi

Guwahati: A seven-member delegation of Jamiatul Ulama-e Hind (JUH), Assam unit led by Jamiat’s state president Badruddin Ajmal met the Congress president Sonia Gandhi in May to discuss the problems of Assam Muslims with her. National President of JUH, Maulana As’ad Madni had earlier challenged the Congress government in Assam that if the promises made to Muslims during 2001 elections were not fulfilled within six months the government will be toppled down. But since the government has not taken any concrete steps for the redressal of the grievances of Muslims, a meeting with Sonia Gandhi was sought. Meanwhile, Congress MP from Assam, Ghulam Usmani who is also chairman of Assam Minorities Board has challenged the Assam government’s threat to abolish the Board and he has asked the state’s Congress president to show All India Congress Committee‘s documents to this effect.
