Tahir Mahmood included in Pak Ideology Council's panel
The
Milli Gazette Online
In an action unprecedented in Pakistan's history an international consultative group has been formed for a high-level constitutional body of the country called the Islamic Ideology Council. The council recently organized a three-day international workshop to discuss the "Islamized" penal laws of Pakistan with reference to the universal declaration of human rights. Beginning on 26th May in Islamabad, the workshop was inaugurated by President Pervez Musharraf. At the end of the workshop was officially announced the formation of an "international consultative group" for the Council comprising of eminent Islamic-law experts from various countries -- including Professor Tahir Mahmood who is a distinguished legal scholar of India. Inclusion of an Indian scholar in the advisory body constituted for a constitutional organization of Pakistan is being regarded as a happy development for the on-going normalization of relations between the two countries.
