Desecration of mosque in Muradabad

Muradabad: A team from city’s electricity department visited Muradabad’s Diwan Ka Bazar mohalla, which comes under Naag Phani Police Station on 2 January, for checking electricity meters. While checking the meters the team members entered a mosque, known as Ek Baje Wali Masjid near the city’s Capital cinema. According to some local Muslims, Qaisar Singh, JE of the department along with some other members of the team entered the mosque with shoes on. When the local residents protested against their entering the mosque, the two sides argued. The team of the electricity department then went to Naag Phani Police Station and registered a complaint against 25 persons, alleging that the team members were beaten up by them under a pre-planned conspiracy and they prevented them from performing their official duty.

When the people came to know about the FIR , a huge crowd which was led by the corporators of city, Haji Qaisar Ali Quddoosi and Asad Kamal, reached police station shouting slogans. The mob surrounded the police station and insisted upon the police personnel to register their complaint against electricity team members who had desecrated the mosque by entering it with shoes on, but the police did not register their complaint. Meanwhile, some more police officers and also leaders of Samajwadi Party reached there.

Tension still prevails in the area. People are angry with the police’s one-sided action and not registering complaint against the team members for defiling the mosque.
