Gujarat riot victim burnt for money
Ahmedabad: A 30-year old woman Bibi Bano, a victim of Naroda-Patiya massacre was set ablaze by her ‘lover’ Tanvir Ahmad. He had an eye on the Rs 3.5 lakh compensation she had received for her family’s death in the riots. An argument between them led Ahmad chasing Bano to her house and setting her ablaze after dousing her with kerosene. Neighbours, who heard her screams, immediately rushed her to the hospital. Bano’s husband, three children and other family members were burnt to death by a mob during a VHP-sponsored bandh. She was re-settled at a rehabilitation site at Vatva in the outskirts of the city where she met Ahmed, a relative of her sister-in-law.
