|Draft Bill on riots to be placed on Internet

New Delhi: The centre will soon make public the draft Bill on communal violence and invite suggestions from various sections of society on the proposed law. Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil addressing the fourth annual conference of the State Minorities Commissions said here on February 11 that that the draft Bill will be put on the Internet for inviting views of the public. The government will also hold seminars to seek the views and recommendations of the people. He added that the issue needed to be considered in great depth
About the provisions of the Bill, Patil said that a provision for special procedures of investigation and trial through establishment of special courts with powers for summary trials and day-to-day hearings is being considered. The legislation may include mandatory provisions for the police to establish centres for recording of FIRs in the affected localities and also in the relief camps . There is a proposal to make statutory provisions for relief and rehabilitation measures, Patil said. The findings and recommendations of various Commissions of Inquiry set up by the Union and State governments as well as those of the National Commission for Minorities and the NHRC have been kept in mind while formulating the proposed Bill.
