Attempts to occupy Urdu poet's tomb

The Milli Gazette Online

Agra: A mela was organised here in the memory of famous Urdu poet Nazeer Akbarabadi on 14 February on the occasion of Basant Panchami. Addressing Nazeer Mela, Syed Marghoobuz Zaman said that Nazeer Akbarabadi was the first Urdu poet who talked to people in local language and style. The chief guest, Samajwadi Party MP from Firozabad, Ramji Lal Suman said that Agra felt proud that the first Urdu poet of international fame, Nazir Akbarabadi was laid to rest here. He regretted that his tomb was being used for dumping household wastes and added that the boundary of the tomb has cracked from many places and some local people are after occupying its land illegally.

Convener of the mela, Peerzada Umar Taimoori, who is also president of Bazm-e Nazeer, and its secretary, Mohan Lal Arora while speaking on the occasion laid emphasis on making Nazeer Mela more popular. In the morning about a dozen school children took out a ‘Prabhat Pherii’ in the name of the great Urdu poet in the neighbouring areas. Ramji Lal Suman and other prominent citizens laid chadar on his tomb. Many prominent personalities from different communities shed light on Akbarabadi’s life and work. Baba Daulat Ram ‘Kuchh Naheen’ recited his poem along with music. A mushaira presided over by Ramji Lal Suman was also held at the end of mela, where the poets of city recited their poems.
